are called mickey mouse, the spring kicks the needle in too quick and if it slips, you can either loose the dose (big bucks) or rip your skin wide open. I learned how to give my injections to my son and also gave plenty of injections to my pups, figured if I could inflict a little pain on them, should be able to do it myself, the only pain is the initial breaking of the skin, after that you can leave the needle in all day and never feel it, it helps to inject the medication in slowly, if that initial breaking of the skin brothers you, you can first use Maximum Strenth Orajel on the area, let is sit a few seconds, clean the area off with the alcohol pad, then inject, so much nicer doing it manually, you can see what you are doing and making sure you get the correct dose, heck if you were near by, I would inject you, no big deal.
