In fact, the pain of CH sets in before any dialation of blood vessels (which is why you couldn't stop the pain by presing on blood vessels). Ueli is right. Start by studying the hypothalamus, the trigeminal nerve and 5-HT neurotransmitters and you may even get a hint after a while.
