Imitrex works by constricting blood vessels, thus controlling blood flow. If there is a blockage, or partial blockage in an artery Imitrex will aggravate the situation. I had a balloon and stent surgery three years ago, and I cannot use Imitrex, because of the stent. Chest pains and shortness of breath should never be ignored. See a cardiologist and explain what is happening, if you haven't already.
