Sounds like clusters to me, except for the intensity. Mine are usually severe. Two a day, once in the evening, one in the middle of the night. Can't sit still. Goes on for five weeks, ends with a bang. I get the same symtoms every time, sinus pain and stuffiness, always in the same place, same side. (One classic symtom of this beast, incidentally, is sinus drainage just after the pain subsides.)
You did not mention whether these things go away after a few weeks or months, at least for a while. Usually do, which of course is what makes them "clusters."
Sound similar? Does to me. I think he got 'em, poor man.
