"pangs" of childhood doesn't make it any easier for him. Children are tough but this kind of thing has no mercy. I think a lot of us have had this kind of experience as well. I'm not a father so pay no attention to me.
This is as hard on you in so many ways. Sitting here, I want to help him. I can't imagine the kind of frustration you must have.
