Are mood swings common? Sorry to ask so many ?s

During Connor's cycle he is soooo hyper one minute and the next moody and irritable, then sweet and loving. All in the matter of an hour. Over and over like this. He has never been like this before, but with this cluster. Are mood swings common?? I love the little booger and feel for him, but boy am I one tired Mommy!!
