The BOD voted on Vancouver because of the easy access from abroad (the airport has international access). The American Dollar is worth 1.5 Dollars in Canada. A lot of members had asked for it. Warren and Bonnie agreed to chair it. And some more reasons I can't remember right now.

As far as OUCH being a US orgainization. OUCH is an International organization. Canada is a part of OUCH as far as the US goes. THere's a legal thing here somewhere, but Canada falls into it, so Canada is a part of the US OUCH. Vancouver will make our organization truly international.

Regardless of where we hold convention, some are going to go and some aren't because of various reasons.

Personally (and this is me speaking - not a board member) I think cities should put in bids for our conventions as they do with other organizations. Let them tell us what they have to offer, then we could probably get better deals. There have been several people mentioned NY City for 2003. And what's wrong with Houston (can't you just see Dennis planning our convention?).

Centralization is not the only thing that goes into planning a convention folks. The BOD does the best they can to please everyone, but alas we're not going to make everyone happy. After all we're only human. We just do the best we can after listening to all sides of the arguments. And the majority of the people who spoke up wanted Vancouver for 2002, so Vancouver it is. 2003 is open - start speaking up now with your choices.

Hugs BD
