I have had CH for 17 years and have been chronic for about the past 4 years. My Neuro has prescribed a number of medicines, lithium, depakote, topamax, neurontin, but nothing has worked. Recently in frustration he prescribed for me a 25 mg imitrex pill twice a day taken not as an abortive but as a preventative. It has worked great, cutting my CH attacks by at least 90%. I saw him yesterday and he confessed that I am the only one he ever tried this on. He asked that I check with this message board and find out if any of you out there are doing the same thing. Meanwhile he is going to check and see if on a longterm basis it might kill me or something. Are any of you taking imitrex to prevent rather than abort CH??
