there's speculation that research was halted because of the CIA's research into using LSD as a mind control drug (during the same time the medical community was looking into the therapeutic effects of hallucinogens)... one of their subjects decided he could fly out of the 10th story window, or some ridiculously high floor... it seems the guy was going to go public with details of the program and his decision to try to fly was aided by the couple of agents who helped throw him out of the window... the program was immediately shut down, and they had to blame this agent's death on something, because he knew too much about these experiments on unwilling subjects. They tried to play it off as recreational use. Consequently, legitimate research was halted because of the government's covert operations. Or this could be a complete fabrication by former participants in the program and the top brass of the A&E network on television. I tend to believe the DEA conveniently covered up another agency's shenanigans...
