I'm probably the leading (and maybe only) proponent of Imitrex tabs rather than the shots. I've been using them since they first came out...about 92 I think.
Here's the trick - - you MUST take the tab at the very first HINT of an attack. They will do little to nothing once the attack is full blown (and hence are worthless for the midnight screamers).
You mentioned taking your first this morning. During cycle, I get my first hit of the day 15 minutes after waking up. Regular as clockwork. About 5 minutes before the attack, I notice a 'tightening' in my temple...as if the skin had been sunburned and stretched tight. That's the time to pop a pill. Takes the pill about 15 minutes to work, so I get hit anyway, but it only lasts 10 minutes or so. Compares very favorably with what I've heard of the nasal spray and shot, both of which are generally taken only after the beast strikes.
As to sides, I've never had any. I've used as many as 49 50mg tabs in 14 days.
Hope this helps.
