I hate the ER too but yesterday I ended up there (2nd visit this week) all afternoon; oxygen (don't have my own yet), demerol (can't get my own), lidocaine thing up my nose (1st time), 60mg Toradol(?) shot before I walked out and an rx for Stadol. It did help keep the "band" at bay for awhile until about 9pm when the little darts starting flying behind my eye and at 3am someone handed them an icepick for the audience (me). It only lasted for about 20 minutes and I am thankful but they haven't quite left the stage. I guess what I'm trying to say is this...if your pain is anything like mine don't wait to go to the ER. I page my doc (day or night) before I go in, he calls ahead to explain and they usually take me right away without all of the bull. This way you don't have to try and convince the docs that you really are in serious trouble.
