constantly for over a year. My prescription was for a one months supply for six pills a day or about 200 pills and good for one years worth of refills. Started off okay, wasn't taking that much, but got into a four hour cycle, CH would come on, pop a pill, wait in severe pain for 45 minutes, have about 2 1/2 hours of relief, headache would come back and would wait an extra 45 minutes before popping the next pill.

An MD friend who could write his own prescription got a high off these pills after having his wisdom teeth removed, he had to spend 3 months in a drug rehabilitation center to break his habit.

I found a new neuro that yelled at me to get off these things, said I was experiencing rebound and dehydration. I had absolutely no problems getting off the medication except for the severe cluster headaches, but this doctor also subscribed O2 that eased it, took about almost a month before the headache cycle would taper. That was a month of pure hell. I won't even take codiene for other forms of pain relief nor any other pain killer after that experience.

That included a rotator cuff x-ray, where air is pumped into the joint to separate the bones. That pain no where near compared with the rebound pain. I have adapted the attitude, that when in pain, work with it, drugs only hide the pain permitting you to do stupid things that will make the pain much worse after the drug wears off. Just my two cents worth.
