Shane,

Some of us are helped by heat (e.g., hot showers, hot packs to face, etc.) some by cold (icepaks to face, etc.). Some are helped by breathing cold air (not hard here in the NE right now!), pacing - the CH "dance", rocking, etc. I was never into self abuse, but some cause pain in other parts of their bodies, like you, for relief. For a couple of years before seeking medical help, I had a lot of luck with antihistamines, but their effect gradually melted away (one I used a lot was chlorphenramine maleate, available at any drug store) (also, I see on MedLine, antihistamines are used for this [of course I didn't know it at the time - just figured it felt "allergic" so I'd try antihistamines - after all they were (? are) called histamine headaches]).

Ibuprofen or aspirin has never helped me, but others say they get relief with them if they take it early enough in the headache. I am sure others will be glad to give you what worked for them (non-medical) and there are probably some things on this website too. Best wishes, Shane.
