5HTP is a precursor to serotonin (5HT). 5HTP is metabolized into something else and then into serotonin (I foregt the names).
Be careful with it. Check the dosages (not over 100mg/day unless under a Dr. supervision. Don't take it with other serotonin drugs, SSRI's, tricyclic antidepressants like Elavil.
