this is turning into a a FRUITLESS but recurring discussion on the CHMB
some folks are slow getting the message I guess
if you're not running at 56K, with a 300 or better speed machine, with nice big caches and fast exchanges, you're gonna get left behind
it's that simple

1. so-called technical "advances" in internet protocols and capabilities continue to demand that we keep our machinery up to date if we want to play - sputtere all you want and blame it one anybody you want, but PLEASE get on with it & get back to CH topoics

2. the internet itself is getting quite sticky at some times simply because of traffic - this web stuff is not magic folks, it's pretty straightforward physics and math - too many energy impulses going through two few switching devices at the same time means friction of a sort, friction slows things down - very elementary and NOTHING to do with cluster headache

3. unless you are on one of the new fiberoptic systems, or an ethernet hookup, (I'm not) faggidaboutit - we've been declared 2nd class citizens by the tech weenies in charge

I am not a computer geek by any means, but I am a realist usually -
I HATE IT TOO, IT SUCKS

BUT IT'S THE WAY IT IS
NOBODY IN OR NEAR CHMB IS GONNA DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT

so, update & get on with it

we're on a Pentium 2 300MHz machine with a 56K modem, and keep thinking about upgrading EXCEPT the phone service is so bad where we are, and there is no cable/fiberoptic available, that the system is limited by the phone lines -
when I downloaded Drummer's video clip it came in at about 5000 bps, even tho I have a fully supported 56K system - lousy phone lines in wet weather - the data bundles keep bouncing back at each other and net gain is is glacial in speed

am I the only one who remembers the James Coburn movie, The President's Analyst - in which the Prez of USA begins to go nuts because of what he sees as a giant conspiracy, acronym TPC ?
(was semispoof on James Bond flix I guess)
at the end of the flick it is revealed there is no huge conspiracy afterall, and TPC is actually
