Don, The modem comes with an eithernet cord. If you have a jack on the back of your pooter that it fits in, you're in business. If not, you can buy an eithernet card for $10-$20 at any electronics place. To install the card you need to have an empty PCI slot (look at the back of the pooter and see if there are any 1/2" x 4" blank metal dealies were the rest of your jacks are. You just unplug your pooter, take the side off the case, remove the blank cover and plug the card into the mother board. You now have eithernet. A router is added protection for your pooter. They run advanced firewalls.

Everything is installed and hooked up. The computer isn't recognizing the Ethernet card. Ehternet software disk says the driver installed successfully?

The problem is the puter not recognizing the card. Think this is the problem? Existing Ndis Driver NDIS.VXD Device Loader Could Not Load the Driver (Found that in the device manager)

Yup. Modem is fine. When I go to the registration software it says no adaptor for a connection could be found.

By BC Quote:So which service is faster, cable modem or DSL? No single answer will suffice for everyone. Cable's theoretical bandwidth limits are higher (but you'll never reach them), and because it's not dependent on distance from a central office, it's more consistent from user to user--unless your next-door neighbor is Blackbeard the MP3 pirate. With DSL, you'll generally get higher speeds the closer you live to the phone company's central office. |
| best answer yet.

The Linksys support Hindu just walked me through the same process I've been doing for 4 hours. Didn't work any better this time. So Habeeb contacts microsoft who say I need to get an updated bios from the puter Mfg. in order for the driver to load properly. Make sense? I dont know.

Yes it does, you should be able to get it from the company website. Just make sure you have a paper copy of the installation instructions and follow em to the letter. Flashing the bios is different than most things. Happy New Year

You're getting good advice here, Don. However, if you ever thought you'd like to visit Michigan in January, just email me for directions. Kris

LOL, M$ always says to flash the Bios, that way when you waste your motherboard you will probably buy a new computer and pay the M$Windows tax. If the flash goes well, they will say you have to upgrade to the newest M$Windows, it's a win/win situation for them and you lose either way (for jonny) Opus/Paul
