Hello Clusterville:

I know this has been brought up in the past as a therapy, and found to be largely unsuccessful, I'm posting a link to a news article on CH treatment with Botox.  I left a comment (yet to be "approved"Wink

It might be a key but I've yet to hear of it legitimately opening any cluster locks.

Hi Ray!
We tried this a few years back with NO results, though it may have been the neuro not knowing what the heck he was doing, as he couldn't even do a simple nerve block correctly!  Mike almost passed out from it, though he did look younger for a few months  Smiley
Hope you are doing better and hopefully Painfree!

Thanks Ray !

That was interesting. The article didnt say where the botox was injected but it seemed the injection sites were somewhere around the face.

Botox helps to relax muscles and deaden superficial nerves. Does this mean a lot of the pain felt is actually superficial on the face and neck and not deep inside the brain ?

This reminds me too of the post about eyedrops helping with low kip pain and shadows.

Maybe the pain of CH is more superficial than once thought ?

Very interesting  Smiley

Would anyone like to help the good doctor out on this?
Please?

I am talking about the pain people describe that is deep behind the eye.

That hot drill that can start from the back of the head through to the front, pushing the eye out.

I dont have CH so I dont know where people really feel the pain. But the way my husband and others described it to me, the worse pain seemed to be deep inside the head, behind the eye, not just the one superficially along the temple , forehead, cheek or eye brow.

Am I wrong about this ? Does the pain feel like its deep inside or does it feel superficial ?

I have other types of headache also, but the one the neuro considers to be ch involves the nerve and blood vessel and does go above the ear on the side, and across the temple, and down through the eyebrow and throughthe eye & cheek.

I wouldn't call  it superficial.  I don't understand how it works, or why it makes people drip and choke, or why it makes me so angry, like right now, I could bite someone's headoff.

Thanks Brew, yes you are correct.

That was a very good description Charlotte.
Hope you feel better soon.
CH certainly can make people angry. Out of all the emotions CH can ignite, anger can be turned into a positive, if pointed in the right direction. Lot's of mountains have been climbed and obstacles overcome by people "mad as hell and not going to take it any more."

To Annette:

I would describe the pain as deep, not superficial.  Almost like a hot, acid covered, iron rod was trying to force my eye out of it's socket.  There may be secondary pain that is between my molars on that side, or temporal, or supra-orbital, or to the right side of my nose.

As far as Charlotte's comments about being angry, I've always thought of it as a "fight or flight" kind of feeling.  After the "why me's", I get mad at the beast, unfortunately being impatient and inconsiderate to those around me sometimes.  Sometimes I feel like I just want to smash something!

Wishing you all well,

Ray

Thanks Charlotte and Ray. I have always been told that the pain is very deep.

The brain doesnt have sensory nerve receptors but the meningies do and the trigeminal nerve originates deep from the inside, only the cutaneous branches are superficial.

I was wondering if botox would be able to influence the deeper part of those nerves and how much of the pain felt during a CH hit is actually superficial.
