After years of drugs for CH relief, a few years ago (1995 or 1996) I went for accupuncture treatments in NY. Since I am more susceptible in Spring and Fall my accupuncurist told me that unlike regular migraines which are hormone related, mine were allergy related and therefore had to be treated differently than regular migraines. Because they are allergy related is the reason why I am more prone to get them in the change of season. He suggested a treatment of about 9 months to 1 year and promised to cure my headaches completely. He said I would not get them ever again after his treatments! (he also gave me chinese herbs). Well, after the second treatment my ch's dissappeared. I couldn't believe it, (especially since I was in my 2nd week of 6-8 week episode). Needless to say I did not finish the recommended treatment of 9 months to 1 year. I think I went for a total of maybe 4 or 5 months. However I have to say that the intensity of my CH's is not there anymore. To the point where I can take Aspirin free Excedrin PM or Aleve and get some sort of relief. Yesterday I went for an accupuncture treatment here in FL and I was also given chinese herbs (different kind) I hope to keep my appointments this time, even after the headaches are gone. Because I really would like to get rid of them for good this time, not just cure them for the time being. By the way, just like some doctors don't know much about CH's, the same applies to accupuncturist, so find one that does understand about ch's. Good Luck.
