Prednizone & Lidocane

My doctor wants me to put me on Prednizone with Lidocane (sp?) for the acute times.

Questions:
1) What and how bad are the side effects?
2) Does anyone have any experience with the CH's "adjusting" to initially effective meds to the point where they're no longer effective?
3) Is there precedent for a "pendulum effect" where trying some meds and coming off them create a worse episode than if never tried?
