When I know I'm getting a 10 usually, by an 8 and it's lasting, I get a 10.
Before it hits a ten, I twist my neck to the right side as hard as I can and breathe calmly, thinking of the ocean, the sounds and calmness of a morning sea. Sometimes I can get around the worst of the pain. It's better than banging, which when I do If I can't get focused.
