For the last two years, my cluster headaches have not been so bad, so I've just been kind of dealing with them as I get them. They don't last too long and haven't been too severe. But in this last five weeks, they've come back with a major vengeance. I decided I had to do something... My new doctor gave me samples of two different medications, Zomig and Maxalt, and a prescription for Imitrex injections.

Since I've had a chance to use all three, I thought I would rate my experience with each.

Zomig: worked well, but took about 30 minutes to kick in.
Maxalt: worked less effectively and for some reason made me feel spacey and weird and tripped out for hours afterwards.
Imitrex: Wow. Now I know what you guys have been talking about! Worked in 10 minutes and I felt FINE! Too bad I don't have insurance and will never be able to afford any more, ever. :-( Even with the advice to "stretch it" into thirds, that would still be $20 per dose, twice a day. $40 a day. I guess I'll just hurt.
