Verapamil & Prednisone

Two weeks ago my neuro put me on these two meds and they have stopped the attacks cold. After 30 years of fooling around I've got a doc who knows what he's talking about (I hope).My question is, today he put me on 240mg of verapamil a day and tells me I should be on this the rest of my life. Is this a common treatment program and what are the long term effects? If anyone else has been on this med for a year or more,I need your opinion.
