OTC Meds. - Helpful or a waste of time and money??

Has anyone ever used over the counter medications like Motrin/Alleve/Excedrin Migraine medications with any success to alleviate CH's??
Just wondered if they might also be helpful in preventing a CH? I know that they can be harmful to your liver if they are used long term, but being an episodic sufferer, wondered if they were effective enough to be used short term? Anyone have any idea??
