Stacey,
I'm new here to the board myself so I hope I'm not jumping in too quickly to answer your post.
I've had CH for a little over 9 years. I too was misdiagnosed at first. The Doc. told me I had neuralgia (or something like that). It was supposed to have been brought on by a neck injury I never had. Eventually I went to a neuro. and was told I had CH. My headaches always come at the same time during a cycle, almost to the minute. Usually last 1-3 hours, sometimes longer, but only once a day. On a rare occasion I've had two in one day. The pain is super intense. I can't stand light...hell I can't stand. My strength is completly drained. Then all the sudden it's as if the beast just up and leaves. Instantly.
Yes, i get that high feeling when I'm not having an attack. I think it's just because I'm so happy not to be in pain. Here are some meds that work for me.

Oxygen as an abortive
Prednisone breaks my cycles
Verapamil has done a good job keeping them away
I just started Ergomar, don't know exactly what it's doing...but it's doing the trick!!

I'm sorry you had to find this place, but glad you did. The folks here are great!!!!! I am already so much more informed than I was two months ago. We all understand and are here for you. Keep us informed about your appointment.

PF, Aaron.
