i saw 2 or 3 folks here ask what a shadow is. the term is used a lot here ... so i thought we might post some definitions for both inquiry and update.

i'll go first. :)

a shadow is what rege ppl (non-CHers) think of as a bad headache. to a standard human being, it's "head splitting pain" ... to a CH-er, it's recess. it sort of pulses in very very low frequency ... that is, it goes from hardly noticeable to very annoying over the course of about 5 minutes or so for hours and hours. it mostly stays between 1 and 2 on the CH-chart ... not worthy of notice except that you know that during one of those "pulses" it will exceed annoying and explode into a CH. it's not a trip thru the tulips, but it's sooo far below a CH on the pain scale that one can function with it, at least during the down-pulse. it can stop you during the up-pulse, but i think mostly because you're worried that an explosion is coming.

there are 3 states of being: no pain, shadow pain, and holy-shit-when-will-this-damned-thing-get-the-hell-out-of-my-head? on a 10-scale - those'd be 0, 1-2, and 3-14 respectively.

there should be 1 state of being for all humans.
