I was a heroin addict of the worst possible proportion, I quit cold turkey(Very hard to do but I did it) and the euphoria I felt when my children were born was even greater, the everlasting buzz of self preservation and conviction that sustained my addictive tendency's as I suffered with this demonic dance routine daily for over 30 years, I had forgotten all about the reason I started using, until I quit!, then it came back to remind me, I stayed off all meds for 6 years then I tried a lot of prescription meds, Demerol being the strongest by way of injection with either visteril or phenergran, then one day I said ,enough, this isn't working and I had been taking 100 talwin every 4 days for 6 years, I again quit on my own valition and stayed drug free for 13 years, until about 4 months ago, I'm pain free for the first time ever, but the guilt of giving up my own drug free ethic is eating me alive and I will be going back to it soon, but the euphoria you speak of is in the very sense of accomplishment of quiting the drugs, seeing the sunrise, hearing your baby cry, smelling the coffee in the morning, hearing the birds sing and feeling the warm sun on your face as you lay on the beach, tanning your drug free spirit, so I have to dissagree, the happieness of the high is in the achievment of making a commitment and sticking to it until you can look back and say I really did it! I know this first hand, for, if you don't beat the drugs or alcohol, all the afore mentioned stuff will never be a factor in your insignifigant existence, for your life end when the drugs begin to rule your actions and cause you to center your life around them instead of all the natural beauty that God has put here for us to be euphoric about! you'll always be an addict, but there are good addictions which can produce magnifigant things if channeled the correct way- Junkie John aka Pappy
