My car was just stolen!!! I can't believe it! I had Christmas gifts in it!!! I ran into a store to get cigarettes and it was gone, it took all of about 1 min. Word to the wise.... do not leave your car running AT ALL. mother fucking son of a bitchin sleeper.

That BLOWS. I had a car that was stolen twice. Be tough on the insurance guys. Always say no to their first proposal. It's always negotiable. Don't forget that.

I know you want your contents back, but believe me you DO NOT want them to recover your car. The last thing you want is to get your car back after a bunch of car thieves have run it to death for a few days.

I couldn't agree more with Bill. I had a car nicked once and I wanted it back more than anything - until I saw it and the state it was in and I knew I couldn't ever face getting in it again. I was never happier in my life than when the insurance declared it uneconomical to repair.
BTW I have to agree (and it hurts!!!) with Marlin. Do not accept the first offer as if nothing else it will be insulting! If they offer you a stupid amount tell them you would like them to replace the car to the exact spec of your stolen one rather than offering you the money as the only thing you can get for peanuts is a monkey. They'll soon come back with a more sensible figure.

LOL! I has a car stolen, I got paid off by insurance and then got a call from the police department. Turns out they ran out of gas in it and left it at the curb. Even though it was reported stolen the place it was parked had no parking 1 day a week for street cleaning. I got 3 tickets on it (3 weeks worth) and had to go to court to fight the tickets. The car was still perfect and I bought it back for 1/2 of what it was worth. Then it was stolen again used in a car chase after a robbery and they got away from the cops. I got called up as it was again parked in a no parking zone. I guess during the getaway they crashed into a curb at high speed and wasted the entire rear end, This time I let it go. A bad karma cara.

I won't assume that I know anything at all about the U.S. vehicle insurance but here in Ontario - the vehicle is one type of policy and those gifts inside would be another and subject to whatever deductible you have on your homeowner's or tenant's policies. Will your insurance cover the car if you've left it running with the keys in it?
Actually I'd like to know how that works down there.
I'm sorry about your car Bethany. I agree you likely won't want it back. I hope you're covered by a company that treats their claimants in good faith.

Beth, that sucks so bad... Everyone else has given out great advice, so I'm just passing along some sympathy. A buddy of mine had his Jeep stolen from right in front of his house, in broad daylight, about two months ago. He had a couple hundred dollars of tools in it, and the Jeep itself had been completely tricked out as a rock-crawler. That thing is gone...
I'm glad you weren't in it when they decided to commit their crime, and glad to see you are safe.
