Lithium and Melatonin
Aug 8th, 2008 at 9:22am

Can Lithium be taken in combination with melatonin at night?

I started 600 mg of Lithium, extended release, on Monday afternoon and have seen significant reduction of numbers and severity of my headaches.  They have been reduced from 8-12 per day to maybe a small late afternoon shadow.  At night, however, I am still getting about 3 wake up calls aborted with O2.  BTW, this is much better than before the lithium.  I was wondering if I could revisit the melation when I'm taking the lithium.

Thanks..............Jonh  Cheesy

I'd definitely check with the doc, I've been taking lithium forever, 1200 mg a day while on cycle, and it's been the miracle silver bullet for me. I've never tried the melatonin with it so I'd definitely wanna yack with my doc first.

Thanks Guiseppi.  I did a google and could not find information on combining lithium and melatonin.  After yesterday and last night I might not need the melatonin.  I had no events yesterday and only one minor wake up call last night.  It appears that maybe I've found my golden bullet.  Its been a year of hell that maybe is coming to an end.  Right now I'm a happy camper.  Hope it sticks!

Generally takes me 10-14 days on lithium to really see the 80-90% prevent rate. I do a prednisone taper during that time to keep the beast at bay. Hope it works as well for you as it has for me!

For those of you with knowledge on melatonin, which brands are best?

You never know what is placebo.

The stuff you buy in a store isn't placebo, the only time placebos are used is during research.  I like the stuff from Vitamin world, but I recently bought some from my grocery store that works really great for sleep,(the best I've used to date) not sure about CH as I'm out of cycle right now, I'll post the brand name tomorrow.

Hey John, are you still using 5HTP?

Triptans cause increased number of hits and increased intensity.  Learn it, believe it, live it.  I use triptans as the absolute LAST RESORT when treating my CH.&&
