The month of August is the tourist season in Vegas so don't expect cheap anything. The rooms at the Monte Carlo that OUCH has reserved will be about as good as it'll get unless you're willing to stay away from the Strip. Then that would mean a car rental (the traffic is horrible on the Strip) or taxi to and from the convention.
Southwest Airlines is one of the main flyers to and from Vegas. They have a web site, www.southwest.com, and each Thursday night (I think) they post special rates. But you have to be quick because those rates are only posted for about 12 hours then it's gone til the next week. The tickets can only be bought via internet. United and Delta and about 30 more also fly to McCarren International in Vegas
When's the next cluster meet in Houston? I'm going through town next week on my way to Galveston.
