The Imitrex injectors are the best stoppers I've used -- 4 to 5 minutes for relief. But the label and the doctor warn against using any form of Imitrex -- injector, tablet or inhaler -- more than three times per week. What about when everything else has failed? When the lithium or Sansert, the O2 and Valium, don't make a dent in an attack? I don't have the courage to sit out a two-hour attack any more, knowing that relief is within reach.
A 5mg Valium tablet used to work wonders. Relief in 10 minutes. But this time around it is pretty much useless. The doctor substituted 1mg Ativan/Lorazepam tablets, but these don't do much but put me to sleep, leaving the headache in place. Not a very good solution. Narcotics like codeine and demerol have proven ineffective in the past. Any suggestions out there?
