Back in 1959 we had a back-stabbing contest kinda like this one - there was this guy who was a CATHOLIC that thought he wanted to be President -- Imagine a CATHOLIC being President... why goodness gracious - we'd have the Pope running the country...

Right.

C-SPAN ran a lot of JFK replies to this kind of thing. The best one was at Houston in front of a bunch of theologians with notes from all kinds from Catholic texts. It was a joy to hear. I hope they run it again.

Thanks for that link, Kevin. Look... here's Obama's birth certificate.  Roll Eyes

That's pretty scant on information compared to any of the birth certificates I've seen.

BTW, am I the only one to notice this:

This is not a copy of an original birth certificate.  It was printed sometime since 11/2001 according to the revision date on the form.

You can buy anything these days why not a friend in the department of records?  I trust all of these yahoos about as far as I could throw them.

I'm not saying...I'm just saying, ya know?

When you order a birth certificate, it's printed at that time. They can't send copies of originals, they have to be "officially stamped" on new paper.

When I adopted the kids, their "new" offical birth certificates looked very different than their original ones. And that was only a few years difference.

I'm just sayin' too.  Smiley

Actually, I have a photostatic copy of my original birth certificate complete with statement of authenticity and raised seal from the State of Kansas, so, yes, you can get a copy of the original or at least you could.  It's been a lot of years.

Their birthplaces shouldn't disqualify either of these yay-hoos from being president.

There are dozens and dozens more important things that should.

It' is incredible how much people from other countries view Obama as a ray of hope that will bring respectability back to the U.S. and McCain is not discussed at all.
This is not a personal opinion of either rather an observation of people who live in my part of the world.
The U.S.'s reputation has taken a real shot in the last eight years and those that have looked up to and admire the U.S of A, it's people and it's principles are really hoping it can be regained.

It has a lot to do with Gitmo. I'm with Tom Friedman who says that the first thing the next guy should do is bulldoze the thing. Good idea. There's no point in fighting a war against people and doing about the same thing as your enemy. Torture is just not the American thing to do.

How a American President can, with a straight face, explain how necessary this horror is; is beyond comprehension. The world and about 75% of his own country hate him. A fire hydrant less incurious and considerate of his own people.

Come on yall. Use common sense! You do not want Barack Obamasomalamadoma to be the leader of the free world. Yeah, McCain isnt a dream candidate, but hopefully hell do better than "W"! As a native Texan, it makes me see red when people call Bush Texan. I damn sure dont claim him! Im a newbie to this site, so maybe I shouldnt be gettin into the politics, but what the hell! All I can say is if you want a racist to be pres., vote for Barack. (and by the way, I am from Texas and I am a redneck, but I am NOT racist or a member of the klan). I do try to educate myself about politics, and Id love for someone to convince me that Obama is not racist.........Ted L.

I think it is incumbent upon you to prove that he is.

All I'm saying is that you can't prove a negative. Ted has to be the one to prove that he is, but don't do it on my account. I already know who I'm voting for.

Marc: The joke on the board is that I was corrected before in that instead of 80%, it's only 76%. That fun aside, 70 plus percent has been all over the news for a week.

Ted:

I boil it down to one or two things. The first is health care and putting a lid on drug lobbyists. McCain: Zero chance; Obama: A good chance. A sane court, McCain:  Little chance, Obama:  A better chance...and it's not just abortion with me. More of the same 1890s economy: McCain:  A certainty. When I vote, I don't like to shoot myself in the foot is all. Health care is the big issue with me.  It's impossible to do worse.

The sad thing is that I could have voted for McCain in 2000. His own party treated him like a leper and stuck us with the Supreme's Horror for the last 7 years.

Obama a racist? Not much of one, if so. About the same for McCain.

Charlie.

I dont think I can prove that Obama is racist. Thats the problem that frustrates me. You cant trust the media to give you the truth. All I can do is get as much info as I can from as many sources as I can, and TRY to sort thru it all. I honestly cant tell you for sure that I will vote McCain in November. I will say this: Im NOT staying home! I will vote for one or the other, even if I dont like either one!!!!!

Ted, having looked at the issues, I'm with Charlie on the health care one.... that's a priority to me also and I don't think we have a shot with McCain  - with Obama we have a little chance of changing it for the better.

With McCain's views on the Iraquain war - I'm scared of him.And when a fund raiser was more important than a vote on a bill in Congress for our Vets - well - sorry but I just can't understand that one - especially since he was against it in the first place. (The education bill for vets). Looks to me like he's not doing the job we're (the American people) are paying him for now.

And he doesn't seem too concerned about "our" economy - guess he has enough and isn't worried about the rest of us trying to get by.

I'm from Texas too and we've got troubles here also... Our education system is completly broken - we've gone from having one of the best systems in the country to one of the worst. Our property taxes are higher than an elephant's eye and are going for what???? If you want some really neat bedtime reading (guaranteed to cure insomia) read the democratic platform and then read the repub one.  Need research -- it's all there...

I'm not real crazy about Obama (I'm still a Hillary supporter), but there are a lot of local, state and national races going on in Nov also... For goodness sakes NO don't stay home.... everyone needs to go vote for who's best for what they believe in.

Oh, and welcome to Clusterville. Glad to have someone else to argue with. Kiss

Hugs BD

By all means vote. I think it was Robert Heinlein that said that there is always somebody to vote against, if nothing else.

People are not happy and that doesn't bode well for stay the coursers. In my 61 years, I've never seen such a top heavy economy nor such a level of greed with no conscience. It's a dangerous time and even some conservatives are beginning to worry.

I'm also a bit tired of hearing about our wonderful and highly productive workers that are paid less today....when adjusted for inflation....than since the 1970s....and some even farther back. It's a 1920s economy at best: Very top heavy and getting more so. Successful economies contain a modicum of fairness. You cannot get away with treating your workers this way forever. Consumerism isn't enough. You can't keep consumers...and that's one helluva pile of people....quiet and happy when they can't consume.

CEOS and hedge funders have bled credit dry and encouraged us to treat our real estate as an ATM. It's over, nothing left. It's been a sweet deal for some. K-Street pals gathering to gut government regulations....until things fall apart...then it's okay for the Fed to step in and pave over their mess. That's not for us though. It's socialism for CEOS and rough and tumble Capitalism for Americans working three jobs.

Capitalism is fine so long as it works. It's being poorly run currently.

So, is it the economy that has changed, or is it Charlie that has changed? Or a little of both? Wink
